We’re opening month… and what a month, right? School holidays, excess food, more celebrations per day than the rest of the year, New Year’s resolutions… And we also live through a bombardment of consumerism that sometimes overwhelms me and sometimes scares me because of how accustomed we already are.
A few days ago I was thinking about what I could do in my store, in my product to encourage sales for Christmas. Luckily I stopped in time. Because you have to be consistent with what you think and what you do, don’t you think? So I said goodbye to this idea.
Until it occurred to me that what I would do this December would be a donation from my sales. Contribute my grain of sand so that a problem can be solved or a situation can improve. For me this is not winning, it is much more.
First I thought of an association that acted against gender violence. But after thinking about it a lot, the famous video of Macaco with the children of the Sant Joan de Déu Hospital in Barcelona fell on my phone. If you don’t know what I’m talking about, click here.
After seeing it a few times it was clear to me that I would have to give these donations to someone who works with children. Because they are the most vulnerable in this society. The victims of adult madness.
Childhood should be laughter and happiness and it is in our hands to make it so.
I have been looking at the Hospital’s website and I really liked everything they are doing. From caring for premature babies to treating children with rare diseases.
Just yesterday I decided to call so they could tell me a little more. I was served by Sara, a very nice girl who treated me very well and explained many things to me. She told me that they disguise the machines so that they do not impose so much respect on the little ones or that after an analysis the children go from one floor to another on a slide. She loved how this hospital is focused on the health and well-being of children. You can see a little bit of what they do on their website.
So in the month of December 10% of sales go to this hospital. And I tell you this because it seems like a place that should be known for its work and because if you are going to buy Mamaceram this month, I think you should know that a little of your money will go to this cause.
Behind MamaceraM there is a desire for mothers not to abandon breastfeeding. I firmly believe (and respecting mothers who don’t) that breastfeeding is the best gift we can give our children. And wanting the children to have the best, I decline this type of donation. I saw clearly that if I collaborated with a small donation it had to be so that all the children, as I said before, would laugh every day.
Some of you who read me may think that this is nothing more or less another marketing strategy to cajole moms. I’ve been doing this for a few years and there are always those who want to see the dark part, which in this case, believe me or not, does not exist.
I don’t like Christmas very much and I don’t know if this is a Christmas spirit thing (I don’t think so) but I do know that I end the year happy for being able to do my bit and for saying that I am consistent with what I say and what I do .
Happy Breastfeeding.
